Legislation and procedures
The most important legislation and regulations concerning mining in the Netherlands are listed here. Mining includes oil and gas production, as well as salt production, geothermal energy and various types of subsurface storage. In addition to legislation, you can also find governmental and council decrees and implementation measures.
As well as direct links to relevant current legislative texts on the government website, you can find explanations of various administrative procedures relating to applications for exploration concessions and production licences, along with details of the requirement to provide acquired data to the Minister and how to submit plans, reports etc.
The Dutch government is currently preparing a ‘Subsurface Policy Strategy’ (Structuurvisie Ondergrond) that should ensure sustainable and responsible use of the subsurface. For more information, including maps, click here.
